NORMAL FLOW OF EVENTS: Join us first for the Keynote Address. Following the keynote, enjoy literacy sessions presented in two tracks. At the end of the session tracks, join us again for the closing ceremony with exciting information and door prizes. At the conclusion of the ceremony, we hold a popular free book giveaway where you may take as many free books as you'd like!

WHAT: In partnership with the Be The Change 719 Fall Festival, we are holding a free book giveaway to celebrate and advance Literacy in the community!
WHERE: Van Diest Park, 1520 S. Chelton Rd, Colorado Springs, CO
WHEN: Noon-4:00 PM
IMPORTANT NOTES: Although the event will be held outdoors, everyone over 3 years old must wear a mask or other face covering. Protective distancing must also be observed, and no more than four people may be at any table. In light of that limit, we ask that you be patient with our process and that you review and select your books quickly so we may allow others to come in behind you and keep wait times to a minimum. But don't let the necessary limitations get you down! In the spirit of the season, feel free to dress up and explore all the other entertainment!

BLACK EDUCATORS' NETWORK LITERACY FESTIVAL DAY

WHEREAS, The Black Educator’s Network referred to as B.E.N. was created in January 2010 to problem-solve issues related to minorities in the Colorado Springs pre-K-12 community; and
WHEREAS, The specific objectives and purpose of this organization is to: A. Help recruit, retain, and support educators of color. Support parents of K-12 students of color. Champion all facets of literacy in the community; and
WHEREAS, The 7th annual B.E.N. Literacy festival is a completely free event that is open to all. It celebrates all facets of literacy including Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, Music, Movement and More - full STEAMMM ahead; and
WHEREAS, Featuring special keynote addresses and engaging literacy sessions, the festival is capped off by a huge free book giveaway suitable to all ages, grades, and reading levels; and
WHEREAS, The 2020 event will be a virtual one, held on September 26th.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Richard Skorman, President of the Colorado Springs City Council, do hereby proclaim the 26th day of September, as Black Educators’ Network Literacy Festival Day in Colorado Springs.
